What Are Dental Implants?

Made of titanium and designed to look like screws, dental implants require surgical placement into the jawbone to create a solid base for what will become a healthier smile. They are topped with metal connector appliances and a custom restoration, which can be a crown, bridge, or denture. Once everything is in place, the full root-to-crown replacement will provide a more reliable, stable, and beautiful result – one you can be satisfied with for a lifetime.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

Initial Consultation: You will schedule a consultation with one of our implant dentists in our office, who will go over the details of your oral and overall health history as well as the status of your jawbone density. If we find any issues, such as gum disease, severe decay, or bone resorption, we may suggest additional treatment before you can be cleared for oral surgery.
Dental Implant Surgery: The entire dental implant process is completed in-house, so you will not need to go anywhere else to have your new teeth put in place. We’ll administer local anesthesia to numb your mouth before opening your gum tissues and placing each implant post into the appropriate space along the jawbone.
Osseointegration/Abutment: The next 4-6 months should be spent allowing your mouth to heal and making sure you do not disrupt the osseointegration process. This phase is essential, as it ensures your implants fuse with the jawbone. Once this is completed, you will return to our office to receive your metal abutments, which will be placed on top of your implants.
Delivery of Final Restoration: Before you can begin to enjoy your new smile, we will need to place the final restoration on top of your implant posts. No matter if it’s a dental crown, bridge, or denture, it can be customized to fit your mouth comfortably while also allowing you to experience a greater bite force when eating.
Benefits of Dental Implants

The benefits of dental implants are unlike any you might experience with dentures or dental bridges. As the only root-to-crown tooth replacement available, these prosthetics are considered the gold standard among dental professionals. Here’s why:
- They can last a lifetime as long as they are properly maintained over the years.
- They deliver stimulation to the jawbone because of their placement, which means a lower chance of bone loss and facial sagging.
- They help improve oral health by keeping natural teeth in place, so they do not shift out of alignment.
- They help minimize the potential development of certain health conditions that are commonly tied to tooth loss, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis.
- They help restore your bite force, so you have virtually no food restrictions in your future.
- They provide a natural-looking aesthetic, so you can appear more youthful and confident.
Who Dental Implants Can Help

Dental implants can help patients who are missing one tooth, an entire arch of teeth, and everything in between! So, if you are ready to face tooth loss head-on, you shouldn’t hesitate to schedule an appointment with our team at Dr. Rosenbaum & Associates. That way, we can determine if you’re a good candidate and, if you are, begin working on your custom treatment plan. In the meantime, you can read on to learn more, including the different types of dental implants that are available.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

In order to determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants in Modesto, we need to review your dental history, take X-rays, and complete a visual exam. In the process, we will determine:
- If your jawbone is strong enough to support dental implants
- If your gums are free from infection
- If any natural teeth you have are healthy
- If you’re committed to taking good care of your smile
- If you’re willing to break harmful habits, like smoking
Important reminder: If you aren’t initially a candidate for dental implants because one of your teeth has decayed, your jawbone has deteriorated, or there is an active infection in your gums, we may be able to provide the necessary preliminary care. So, the answer isn’t “never,” it’s “not yet.”
Missing One Tooth

If you are missing one tooth, but the rest of your teeth are healthy, then we will likely recommend a single dental implant. This requires us to place the implant post into the open space. Then, once it has fused to the jawbone, we can secure a custom dental crown on top with an abutment. At this point, the entire structure of your missing tooth will be restored!
Missing Multiple Teeth

What if you are missing several teeth? In that case, you have a few options, starting with replacing each one with a single dental implant. However, that isn’t the most efficient approach if you are struggling with moderate tooth loss. For that reason, we will likely recommend an implant bridge if you are missing a few teeth consecutively or a partial implant denture if you are missing multiple teeth in an arch.
Missing All Teeth

If you don’t have any of your natural teeth left, you might assume that your only option is a traditional denture. That’s not the case! Now, dentures can be secured in place with a few strategically positioned dental implants. Not only does this result in unmatched stability, but it also helps prevent bone loss. Plus, with proper maintenance, dental implants can last for 30+ years.
Understanding the Cost of Dental Implants

Investing in dental implants is often the most pivotal factor for potential patients. Justifying and affording the upfront expenses can be difficult; however, every case is different. What another patient pays is unlikely to be the same as what you pay. This is why a scheduled consultation is required. Not only will we determine your eligibility for treatment, but we’ll also prepare a cost estimate for your review. Our team will identify ways to help you save so that the initial expense is within your financial reach.
Preliminary Treatments & Dental Implant Surgery

Paying for preliminary treatment may be necessary if we discover additional procedures are required before you receive your dental implants. Gum disease therapy, tooth extraction, or bone grafting may incur additional costs.
Fortunately, you will not need to worry about receiving a bill from an outside specialist since we will perform the start-to-finish process in-house. The cost of your surgical procedure will be included in your total bill.
The Parts of Your Dental Implant

There are various factors our team must consider when preparing your cost estimate, one of which is the type of parts used in your dental implant. As you will see below, these are just a few that we must think about before discussing your expected costs:
- The Number of Dental Implants You Need: The more titanium implant posts you require, the higher your treatment costs will be.
- Type of Restoration: Dental crowns and bridges cost much less to create than a denture; however, if you consider the cost-effectiveness of implant dentures, they are a worthwhile investment when compared to traditional prosthetics.
- Materials Used: The most frequently used materials are titanium and zirconia. Your dentist will explain which will be used during your treatment.
- Manufacturer: Each dental implant manufacturer is different, and we will explain which one our team uses to build your perfect smile.
How Dental Implants Can Save You Money

Dental implants remain the closest thing to natural teeth, so when choosing the right kind of tooth replacement, other options cannot compare. Not only do dental implants lower your risk of bone and tooth loss, but they also have a lifespan of 30+ years. Although you must pay a higher upfront cost, the savings from avoiding adhesives, relinements, and replacements make the investment worthwhile.
Does My Dental Insurance Cover Dental Implants?

You will need to review your dental insurance plan to determine whether it covers dental implant surgery. Many still do not; instead, they view these procedures as elective. However, other aspects of your treatment may receive partial coverage, including your custom restoration and/or any preliminary procedures you might need.
Our team will be happy to work on your behalf, if you prefer, to get you the answers you need to determine whether you can use your dental insurance to help lower your out-of-pocket costs.
