We understand that learning you need a tooth extracted is not news you want to hear. At Dr. Rosenbaum and Associates, we make every effort to save your natural teeth because it is the optimum way to maintain your oral health. Sometimes, however, things happen, and the best way to support your health might be to remove your troubled tooth. Drs. Forsberg, Malogan, Street, and Swanberg provide comfortable, efficient dental extractions for our patients.

Reasons for Dental Extractions

You may need a dental extraction for a variety of reasons. Some of the most common ones include:

  • Deep decay
  • Damage
  • Fracture
  • Failed root canal
  • Overcrowding
  • Wisdom teeth
  • Splitting
  • Tooth removal for dentures

No matter the reason, you can count on us to provide you with personalized, comfortable treatment and a variety of tooth replacement options, if necessary.

Your Extraction Procedure

When patients need an extraction, they have many concerns. Staying comfortable during treatment is often on their minds. At our Modesto, CA dental office, we make your comfort our top priority. We make sure to give you the appropriate level of anesthetic and check with you periodically throughout your treatment to ensure you remain comfortable from start to finish.

Simple Extractions

A simple extraction removes a tooth that is already visible above your gum line. Our dentists will gently loosen it and lift it from the surrounding bone. It is normal to have some bleeding, but it should stop within thirty minutes of your treatment. Simple extractions do not normally require stitches and heal relatively quickly. It is important to avoid smoking and drinking through a straw so you do not disturb your blood clot.

Surgical Extractions

Surgical extractions are for teeth that are below your gum line or only partially erupted. In the case of surgical extractions, you will likely have stitches. Even though your extraction was surgical, you will find that your mouth has incredible healing capabilities and you should begin to feel better in just a few days. We will monitor your progress and provide any additional treatments or medication necessary to ensure a full recovery.

In addition to avoiding drinking through straws, you will probably want to stick with soft foods for a few days while you recover. Things like smoothies, mashed potatoes, and yogurt should feel comfortable while you heal. Of course, keeping your mouth clean will help you heal more quickly. We will go over all of your instructions prior to your treatment.

When a Referral Is Necessary

Sometimes we refer patients to an oral surgeon for their extractions. If you require a complex extraction or if we think you might be more comfortable having your procedure completed in a specialist’s office, we will always do what is right for you and will give you the best results.

We work closely with several trusted oral surgeons in our area and will stay in close contact with them regarding your treatment so you receive the same great care you would receive here in our dental office.
